Open Facebook links in the app
Paste a Facebook URL and get a link that opens the Facebook app instead of the browser — with a web fallback for everyone else.
Free forever. No login. Works with facebook.com links.
Which Facebook links work
toThe.App recognises links on facebook.com, fb.com. These URL shapes are handled:
On iPhone
Numeric profile IDs and named pages both open to the matching screen in the app.
On Android
The Facebook app opens when it is installed, and the browser takes over when it is not.
Known limitations
No link can force a phone to open an app. These are the cases where a Facebook link falls back to the web:
- Vanity URLs without a numeric ID do not always resolve to the right in-app screen.
- Individual posts, groups and events generally fall back to the web view.
- Facebook's in-app browser will not hand off to another app.
Questions
How do I make a Facebook link open in the app?
Paste the Facebook URL into the generator above and select Make short link. Share the result. On a phone with Facebook installed, the link offers to open the app; otherwise it continues to the Facebook website.
Which Facebook URLs are supported?
Links on facebook.com, fb.com are recognised. Typical shapes: https://www.facebook.com/PAGE_NAME · https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=NUMERIC_ID.
What happens on iPhone?
Numeric profile IDs and named pages both open to the matching screen in the app.
What happens on Android?
The Facebook app opens when it is installed, and the browser takes over when it is not.
Why did the Facebook app not open?
The device makes the final call. Common reasons: the app is not installed, the specific URL type is not covered (Vanity URLs without a numeric ID do not always resolve to the right in-app screen.), or the link was tapped inside another app's in-app browser, which will not hand off to a native app. The web fallback always works.
